Hi,
I have configured ODBC for DB2 and able to connect Oracle
Discoverer4.1 with DB2.
But Oralce Reports 6i doesnt connect to DB2 using the same ODBC
configuration.
Oracle Discoverer4.1 and Oralce Reports 6i are installed in the
same Oracle Home.( c:\orawin95)
I give the connect informationa as follows:
Username : bb2_user
Passowrod: *******
Database : ODBC:db2connect
I get the following error:
REP-0501-Unable to connect to the specified Database
ORA-03121-No Interface Driver Connected - Function not performed.
Any suggestions is appreacited.
Thanks

Thiruchendhuran,
This is a setup/configuration issue. There are many
dependencies on which versions of the various components are
being used.
You can use metalink to access note 66481.1 which may help you
get this up and running. If you need additional help, contact
Oracle Support Services.
Regards,
The Oracle Reports Team.

Thanks Oracle Reports Team.
I will post message after I get Reports 6i working with DB2.
Thiru

I had installed Open Client Adapter(OCA) for ODBC (as mentioned
in Metalink note 66481.1) and now SQl*Plus connects to DB2 with

ERROR: ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress

I am new to Oracle database having worked with SQL servers(2000, 2005, 2008, & 2012) for quite sometime though.I installed Oracle 11g on my Windows 8 64-bit laptop and initially could login via SQL Plus using DBSNMP account name and the password I set during installation. I tried running SQL Developer with no success since it requires JAVA Runtime therefore I downloaded the SQL Developer with JAva from oracle.com and unpacked the zipped file to the D: drive as i could not extract it to C:\Program Files as per suggestions i got. The application starts perfectly but when i try to login to my database i get this error message : ERROR: ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
I have tried to restart the service using the following commands from SQL PLUS
-connect sys as sysdba
- connect / as sysdba
- shutdown abort
From SQL Plus it seems am now connected but SQL Developer still throws the same error. Please advise me on how to proceed and manage my database graphically.
Thanks in advance

Can anyone help how to start the database?
Hi,
Do you have the password file in place?
Regards,

http://myracle.wordpress.com.
The error you had means your database is not running.
Please check if the Oracle service started and if there's any Oracel related process from task manager.

Please clarify this, by using remote desktop, do you means you use remote desktop connect to server directly. Or connecting remotely using sqlplus from your PC.
As mentioned, it's not about password file. Your instance is not runing.
set ORACLE_SID correctly and try
sqlplus internal
SQL>startupSee if you can start the instance.
i have set the oracle_sid and then
C:\Documents and Settings\vsitadmin>sqlplus internal

ERROR:
ORA-24314: service handle not initialized
I am able to connect now.
What i did is:
set oracle_sid=<SID>
sqllpus internal#SID
now it got connected.
Thanks for your help.
Are you working on server or your PC?
I am using remote desktop to connect to server and then working on that pc locally. May be thats why it was expecting for sid

Oracle XE nightmare on Win7

Hi all,
I have recently installed Oracle XE 10g2 on my PC at work (following the installation guide).
But when I try to open the Database Homepage, I get the message:
*"Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:8080"*
and I'm sure this is not a browser issue.
I've read somewhere (don't know if it's true or not) that IIS might cause problems regarding the Database Homepage, but removing it from my PC is not an option in the near future.
OracleXETNSListener, btw, is up and running.
Another problem is that the SYS/SYSTEM password I entered during setup is irrelevant.
This assumption is based on failure to attempt any user-password related command suggestions I encountered regarding the above issue (e.g. "sqlplus / as sysdba" results in "ORA-01041: internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist").
I saw something about ORAPWD utility (*http://www.oracleutilities.com/OSUtil/orapwd.html*) , but it requires a password file that doesn't exist in a folder in which I don't have privileges (even though my user is defined with administrator-level privileges), so I can't even use ORAPWD.
I'm no DBA. In fact, I'm making my first baby steps with oracle and have very little clue of what I'm doing, so I was hoping to start with the Database Homepage (which of course I cannot) and take things from there.
One last thing that bothers me for the moment is that the "SQL> *help*" is also unavailable.

Hi,
Looks like db configuration was not successful on your server
- What is the status of service OracleServiceXE in the SC manager
Please try out solutions provided for similar problems posted on XE forum
Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)
Thanks
Srinivas
Welcome to the forums !
AFAIK, XE is not certified to be run on Win7, so things may or may not work as expected.

OS Authentication on NT from Linux

I can't get in to the Oracle data base running on an NT server that is using OS Authentication.
On an NT box, if I type
sqlplus /#xxxxxxxx
where xxxxxxxx is the name of the database, I get in without a problem. But this doesn't work on Linux.
Is there any way I get around this?
Thanks.

on linux i found you have to use your full path to have it hook in with id & passwd. ie sqlplus system/manager#oralin.mybox.com if this is what your looking for.
I already have tried what you suggest and it doesn't work.(I've x'd out some things for saftey.)
Apparently I have to be logged into the proper domain. When I log in from an NT box I log in to a specific domain. Is there someway to do this in Linux?
(I have the tnsnames.ora file correctly set up and it links the data base to the server. I can access Windows network shares, mount them, etc. I can ping the NT server.)
[xxxxxxx#rbilonick xxxxx]$ sqlplus xxxxxxx/xxxxxx#xxxxxxxx

You are correct that if you want to use native OS authentication on NT/2000, you'll need some way other than Oracle to log your Linux clients into the network. This is the downside of using OS authentication.
What you may try is SAMBA, which provides the necessary transport for a Unix client to log into an NT domain. Or, you might use 2000, Active Directory and use Directory Service authentication. But you can't do it solely at the SQLplus client level.
Note that this is not a bug. In a strict OSI model, it is not the responsibility of the application (SQLPlus) to authenticate you to the network (which is what you are asking for in native authetication for Windows). The client assumes that you are authenticated to the network via some other application.
null
You might also want to try using pam_smb along with Samba. pam_smb is a PAM module/server which allows authentication of UNIX users using an NT server. http://www.csn.ul.ie/~airlied/pam_smb/

Problem with oracle advanced security

Hi,
after I have set the encryption and checksum parameters in sqlnet.ora, I can't connect to Oracle via TCP/IP (sqlplus user/passwd#service). I get the following error:
Error accessing PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE
Warning: Product user profile information not loaded!
You may need to run PUPBLD.SQL as SYSTEM
SP2-0614: Server version too low for this feature
I can login in via named-pipes (sqlplus user/passwd) or vie Oracle DB Manager Console. I use the Oracle DB 10.1.0.2. The client has the same version.
I tried the sqlnet-settings with another database and it run.
Does anybody have an idea ?
