Pro*C for 8.1.6 on Linux? - Downloads Issues

I need to locate the Pro*C pre-compiler to use on my Linux box to work with Oracle 8.1.6
Is there such a product from Oracle for Linux and if so, where can I obtain/download it?
Thanks,
-Ralph

Pro*C & Oracle 9i

I managed to install Oracle 9.0.1 on Redhat Linux 7.1.
I am having difficulty compiling Pro*C sample programs. Like other Oracle installs on linux, it needs updated 'pcscfg.cfg' file.
Any Gurus out there...

Problems w/ PROC precompiler

I have visual studio 6 installed and I am trying to run the PROC precompiler like they have at school (but at home) and I cannot find that executable anywhere on my pc. Is this because I installed Oracle before visual studio? The version I am running of Oracle is 9.2.0.1 . Thanks in advance!

What version of Oracle do you use at home? What is your operating system? Do you have a pro*c precompiler installed along with Oracle?
I use 9i with a general database installed. I use windows 2000. I do not beleive that I have the pro*c compiler installed. Is this a seperate download?
Thanks,
Brad

Pro*Cobol, Linux & Oracle 9i

There is an old Oracle 7.3.4-based application on a very old Unix. The application is written in Cobol and evidently used Oracle's Pro*Cobol precompiler product.
Now, we're porting to Oracle 9i, possibly powered by Linux. I can't find Pro*Cobol for anything past Oracle 8. Was Pro*Cobol functionally replaced by something else? Is that (or its equivalent) still needed? Thanks in advance.

Pro*Cobol precompiler under Intel Linux Availability??
I am looking for the Pro*Cobol precompiler for Oracle 9i Database Enterprise Edition (any version) running on Intel Linux (Advanced Server or Redhat).
My developer can not seem to find this precompiler that is supported in Intel Linux for 9i. (We see it is available under True54 Unix and other 64-bit OS's but not for Linux)
Does Oracle offer this? Where can we find it? If not, can an older Pro*Cobal precomiler from, say, Oracle 8i port over and work under 9i? If not, is Oracle planning on releasing the Pro*Cobol precompiler under 9i? If so when?
To date we have had very little success getting an answer on this specific area of questioning. Any response, even that it will not be available, will help us determine a best plan of attack on our development.

Hi ,
Pro*Cobol is not shipped / supported with Oracle 9i Database on Linux. I am not aware of any plans to support it in future too .Using 8i port is not recommended because Pro*cobol is not supported on Linux platform.

Differnce between oracle 8.0.5 and oracle 8.1.5

We are running oracle 8.0.5 on a thru64 unix system. Now one of
our software suppliers demands us to install oracle 8.1.5. Not a
big problem, but i want to know the difference between oracle
8.0.5 and 8.1.5.

For this I had to write a whole a book,
there are a lot of new features and enhancements.
But why to do you need to install 8.1.5 ?
Is there no 8.1.7 on thru64, because 8.1.5 is the first of 8i and
there are some important bugs.
So do yourself a favour and use the latest version.

Where is Pro*COBOL with 9i ???

Am I missing something ? With the 8.1.7 release (at least the
downloadable version), the only version of Pro*COBOL was the
antiquated 1.8. However, with 9i, I don't see any sign of
Pro*COBOL at all.
Does anyone know (or care) where we stand with Pro*COBOL on
Linux. Ideally, I'd like to see a newer version (eg the same
version - 9.0.1 that comes with the HP-UX or Solaris release),
but at this stage I'll take anything.

I've the same problem.
Could someone answer ?

PRO COBOL IS NOT SUPPORTED IN THIS RELEASE OF 9I(VERSION R2)
Is there any plan to support it in the near future ?
Any Oracle comment will be wellcome.

When you install Oracle on Linux, even a complete install does not install the Precompilers!!!!!!!!!!
You would have to run the installer again and select the precompiler option explicitly to be installed.
Same thing happened to me and I had to run the Installer again to select precompilers to get them to install.
But procobol is supported on Oracle9i R2 on Linux ?
Does someone know that information ?
It would be supported in the future ?
TIA

I posted a very similar question on the Precompiler forum and here is the response from an Oracle employee
