Can I access a smartcard from an applet? - Java Applet Development

Hi,
Am trying to write an applet that will authenticate with a smart card. Am not sure if the security policy allows an applet to access a smart card at all. Is this possible?
If possible, Can I use the standard javax.smartcardio library to do that?
Thanks for any help,
Priti

Hi,
This is indeed possible. You will have to have your applet signed to be able to access a card though. Once you have signed your applet you can use smartcardio.

Thanks!

Offline JavaCard Reader?

Hello,
I'm an absolute SmartCard/JavaCard newbie. We are thinking about a token solution for integration in our web application. Since we are using Java implementing J2EE-application the idea is to implement the token in Java too, so that we can verify on J2EE side.
Does anyone know an offline card reader (with pinpad and display) to access java applets? Such an offline card reader should use the applet on the java card to make crypto-calculations (certificate based,..) or is this just impossible by now?
hi,
You can use JCOP Offcard API to communicate to a javacard applet through an external reader.
Please go thru the link. It is not the solution for ur problem. But you can get idea how JCOP Offcard API is used to communicate. (Go thru the code sample in 2nd reply. You may have to use NativeJCTerminal class for that, i think.)

Hi,
See http://code.google.com/p/bluecove/
Hope that help,
Jack
Hi, jack#square6 , thanks for your help, i have download the bluecove, but will when I double click the bluecove.jar, it will give me a error with is "Fail to load Main-Class manifest attribute from C:\bluecove.jar" ?
I have set the classpath "C:\bluecove.jar" already.
Hope can hear your or anyone's help, thanks!
Hi,
There are no main in blucove jar file, it's just a library wich implements bluetoth JSR. So, you have to write an application over it to do the work.
